Yes, 16 October is a very important date in the history of Farnborough - this year marks the centenary of Samuel Cody’s very first manned, powered flight in the UK. The picture to the right shows the airport today, including the award winning control tower, hangers and terminal building.
The landscape has changed a lot since Cody’s day, but Farnborough is still an aviation capital on the world stage. |

Many events are planned in both Farnborough and Aldershot, where Cody started his military career with the Royal Engineers' Balloon School. | |

What is this site?
It’s basically a voice box for the people of the Blackwater Valley in north Hampshire, England. We also feature articles of general interest, reviews, an easy to enter competition and reviews of local traders.
